Q: I have a vendor doing business as XYZ who needs their 1099 to go to the parent company ABC. How do I fix that?
A: Previously, you used to be able to put both names on the 1099 by using address line 1 in the vendor’s profile to enter the parent company’s name. For example, address line 1 for company XYZ would read c/o ABC. However, if the IRS requires that only the name matching the EIN (parent company) can appear on the 1099, and you use Yearli as your filer for the 1099, then there is a relatively simple solution. Certiflex creates an Excel file for you to upload to Yearli. Before uploading it to Yearli, open the file in Excel and sort by the Recipient Address 1 column. Go to the part of the column where the “c/o company name” data appears, select and copy it as a whole. Next, select the range of company names to be replaced in the Recipient Name If Company column and paste. Select the “c/o company name” data in the Recipient Address 1 column once more and clear it. Lastly, find and replace the “c/o” prefix with a blank.
