Q: I am trying to send PDF email attachments to my customers/employees, but MS Outlook keeps sending them as a Winmail.dat file. How do I fix this?
A: Microsoft Outlook automatically generates a Winmail.dat file when an Outlook email user composes and sends a message using the Rich Text Format or HTML Format. To fix the problem, you will have to change the setting to compose emails as Plain Text.
From the main Outlook window, click File > Options > Mail. Under the Compose Messages section where it says, “Compose messages in this format” select Plain Text from the drop-down menu. Next, scroll down to the bottom of the dialog box. Under the Message Format section, where it says; “When sending messages in Rich Text format to Internet recipients:” select Convert to Plain Text Format from the drop-down menu. Finally, click OK.
